Welcome to an experiment run amok! Here's a quick intro video (a better one will come with a future update)

As the video(s) show - I got to playing around with my thermal label printer for shipping. And then I realized I could make tabletop map tile sets that cost almost nothing to print. Here we are.

This is an ongoing endeavor and more tiles will be coming as I finish drawing them. But here's the experimental sets I created just to see what the printer could do!

Ready to get started?

Here are the materials I'm using.

Thermal Printer ($40)

Labels ($9.99) (about $0.019 each)

Note: apparently UPS will send you free labels if you have an account with them! I have not yet review whether this is feasible (or fits their terms of service) but will update after I'm done investigating.

Substrate: recycling encouraged! Any card stock/cardboard boxes/cereal boxes/etc. work well. But here's some pre-cut 4x6" stock if you're looking for a fancier option. ($24, about $0.05/each)

Disclaimers:

  • This is a new project. There may be other/better/cheaper materials out there. I'll keep a running list as I learn new stuff.
  • I've signed up to see if I qualify for affiliate links on these. If I'm sending people Jeff's way, I might as well take a dollar out of his pocket.
